Author description

After gaining an Honours degree in Classical Botany, Jenny Hendy worked for one of Britain's leading gardening magazines. She then opted for a freelance career and soon after became editor of the European Topiary Society's journal, Topiarius. She is the author of many gardening books on a wide range of subjects from topiary to container gardening, although planting and design have always been her speciality. An author, lecturer and TV guest presenter, Jenny's interest in garden design has developed into a thriving consultancy. Her other titles include Topiary, Creative Ideas for Lawns, Patios, Decks & Paths; Creative Ideas for Walls, Fences, Hedges & Boundaries; and Best-Ever Step-By-Step Kid's First Gardening, which won the Practical Book of the Year in the Garden Media Guild Awards. Joan Clifton trained in horticulture and landscape design and is an established figure at the forefront of garden design. Her work has appeared in a number of prestigious publications and she has lectured widely in Britain and Japan. Joan has written a number of books, including Garden Elements, which was shortlisted for inspirational Gardening Book of the Year by the Garden Writers' Guild in 2000, and Stone, Wood, Glass and Steel. Her latest venture is to restore an ancient farmhouse and create several acres of innovative gardens and woodland in south-west France.
