The Applied Relaxation Training CD corresponds with chapter 7 of The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook. It brings together a number of proven relaxation techniques to help listeners reverse the effects of high stress in less than a minute. Swedish physician L.G. Ost developed applied relaxation in the late 1980s while working with phobic patients who needed rapid and reliable methods to cut through the anxiety that struck when they encountered phobic situations. Finding that his technique could achieve high rates of success even with severely phobic patients, Ost realized that applied relaxation could be helpful in a variety of life situations, from daily quarrels and frustrations to difficulty falling asleep at night. This voice-guided program first teaches listeners to relax by using a physical relaxation process. Listeners then progress to a conditioned relaxation response and, finally, they learn to achieve deep relaxation in twenty to thirty seconds. This CD is part of the five-disc The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook Audio Series Audio Series.
